About us
HaitiScope is an independent project that aims to become the reference source for understanding the real exchange rate and, eventually, the real cost of living in Haiti — not just the official rate, but what's actually happening on the ground.
The starting observation
The official rate published by the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH) and the rate at which people actually exchange their dollars on the market are almost never the same — the gap can exceed 5%. This difference is rarely visible anywhere clearly, even though it directly affects the diaspora, merchants, importers, and anyone who sends or receives money.
Our approach
- Data collected automatically, hourly, not updated by hand or approximated.
- A clear separation between what's official, what's observed on the market, and what the community reports — never mixed.
- No order execution, no financial advice: HaitiScope informs, it doesn't transact.
- Transparency about the sources and limits of the data shown.
Where the project stands
HaitiScope is an independent project under construction (version V0.1), not yet incorporated. The USD/HTG rate and conversions are the first building block; others — real prices, cost of living, community — are planned next, built one at a time rather than all at once.
